A TPU cage alongside the traditional lacing system work together to effectively lock down the midfoot for a secure fit with minimal in-shoe slip. The shoe also has gaiter attachment points for optional gaiter attachments for added protection against the elements. To complete the upper, Hoka have included reflective elements to improve visibility when in low light conditions. Dual-Density Midsole The midsole of the Mafate 5 is made with a dual-layer PEBA construction, with a supercritical soft springy foam top layer and a shock-absorbing bottom layer. This protects your feet and joints from harsh impact upon unpredictable trails and unforgiving surfaces, as impact is absorbed up into the foam upon contact. This built pressure is then released within the following stride as added propulsion, providing you with extra assistance on the trail. Hoka's Rocker Integrity Technology has been integrated with a reinforced MetaRocker to tackle uneven terrain for a steady and balanced ride.​ A premium sockliner has been added to the midsole to deliver instant step-in comfort.
